Congratulations crew on Standard Deviation !
The 2012 Farr 30 Great Lakes Championships were held June 22-24, 2012 at Cleveland Race Week. Hosted by Edgewater Yacht Club, the Fleet enjoyed beautiful weather over 3 days of racing. After 9 races, William Markel and his Standard Deviation team have repeated as back to back Great Lakes Champions with a dominating 9 bullet performance.
Day 1 brought lighter winds out of the Northwest with tight racing amongst the Fleet. Coming off a great performance at the North Americans, Markel and team jumped right out in front of everyone and did not look back for the 4 races.
Day 2 brought 10-12 knots out of the Northeast with a slight chop. The Fleet got their monies worth of racing with 1.5 mile legs and 4 races completed. Racing in their first Farr 30 regatta, Toronto based Press Gang was dialed in and gave Standard Deviation a run. At the end of the day, Standard Deviation was still leading with Black Seal and Press Gang mixing it up for 2 & 3.
Day 3 brought lighter winds out of the Southwest with no chop at all. After 1 race and another bullet for Markel, the Fleet headed in to relax and pack up their boats.
In the end, our smaller Fleet was not lacking in great racing or apre' sailing. A fun time was had by all on and off the water.Final Results:1. Standard Deviation- Bill Markel, Buffalo Yacht Club2. Black Seal- Seth Young, Lakeside Yacht Club3. Press Gang- Christina Medland & Roland van Hazel, National Yacht Club
The Fleet wishes to thank Edgewater Yacht Club for hosting. The Race Chairs, Race Committee, Marina Operations, and Volunteers were all very gracious and welcoming hosts.
